The school year is going strong and you are trying to get your ministry hitting on all cylinders. You have big dreams and some plans, but you also have questions. This month The Coaching Center would like to address some of the questions we are answering for people like you who are leading in ministry.
This is a critical event for your school each fall. You will notice people praying who you never knew would be interested in spiritual things. We recommend that you pass around some sign up sheets to remind you who was there and how to reach them. We also suggest that you have a second event created, and a flyer to publicize it, ready to be handed out that morning. You have a big crowd and you have people excited about Christ and the school. While you have the crowd, invite them to the next event!
This is the right question! Don’t try to do it alone – get some help! The how and where are the harder parts. Paul reminds us that it is God who causes the growth, whether that is in our heart or the size of the group, it is God who is responsible. Jesus tells the disciples to seek God to send out laborers. The primary function of a leader is to pray for the ministry. It is also the primary recruiting tool – pray, pray, pray!
As far as recruiting, I would think through what it is that God has called me to do. Make your statement as clear, specific and visionary as possible. Memorize the statement and then tell it to everyone you know. Your enthusiasm, as well as your faithfulness in working the plan, is what God will use to attract others. You might want to search for laborers among college students you know. I would also check with teachers, parents and youth workers to see if God might create partnerships among them to reach high school students. Explaining Student Venture.
God does desire every student to be confronted with who He is. He also tells us not to despise small beginnings. Start where you are, lead in prayer and think about one group of people at your school who you can impact. It could be because you know and have played that sport or you do a little acting yourself or you were involved in that group when you were in school, but set your sites on a specific piece of the school and trust God for a faith-filled way to present the gospel to that group of students. We use the terms decoding the campus and target group outreach.
Maybe it’s a meeting, maybe it is a party. Maybe you use the platform God has given you to share about your experiences in what they are going through and make yourself indispensable to their success. The point is to use your background and desires to connect and minister to students at your school, specifically groups. Students tend to share friendship and common schedules with students in their primary groups. This will save you tons of time and create amazing opportunities to see God at work! We have lots of ideas for targeting groups for evangelism on our web site!
You are God’s ambassador at your school and He has ordained for you to bear much fruit! As you stay connected to the Vine, trust Him to lead you and to take big steps of faith this year. Watch God display His power!
